Abstract Submission Information

Note:  Due to the change in date and location, the organizers of the DNP and JPS Fall Meeting would like to give members who were previously unable to attend the opportunity to submit an abstract.

Submission is open for new abstracts only. Anyone with accepted talks should not submit additional abstracts.

Abstracts should be submitted to DNP Abstract Submission by 17:00 ET on 22 October 2023. Abstracts received will be placed into appropriate sessions as much as possible.

Please note it is possible to change the presenter on abstracts if the author cannot attend but another speaker can present. For those changes, please contact abs-help@aps.org

  • Abstract submission opens on Monday, April 24, and closes on Friday, July 7 for all but the undergraduate categories.

The deadline for those abstracts (category 16: posters and category 17: talks) is Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

  • If you have received an invitation from the DNP Secretary-Treasurer, Ramona Vogt, inviting you to give a talk in one of the invited sessions or a lead talk in a minisymposium at the main meeting, you can click on invited when entering the site. If you are giving a talk in an invited session, please submit it to category (18), "Other".

  • If you are a lead speaker in a minisymposium, please submit to the sorting category for your minisymposium (19a-19m).

  • If you have received an invitation from one of the workhsop organizers, please submit it to category (20), "invited workshop speakers".

    •  When you select "invited workshop speakers" then a menu of all the workshop titles will appear. Please submit your abstract to your workshop title.

  • If you are submitting a contributed abstract, please submit it to one of the general sorting categories (1-15), or if you feel your research is relevant to one of the minisymposium categories, please submit to that category (19a-19m).

  • Please see the list of Mini-Symposia and their descriptions.

Contributed Abstract Guidelines:  https://www.aps.org/meetings/policies/contributed.cfm

How to submit and abstract, including eligibility rules: https://www.aps.org/meetings/abstract/submit.cfm

All APS members and members of reciprocal societies are eligible to submit abstracts. APS members are permitted to submit a contributed oral or poster abstract for which a non-member is listed as the presenter.  The Physical Society of Japan is a reciprocal society of APS.

  • For any questions specifically about abstract submission, please email abs-help@aps.org.

Editing Abstracts

The Planstone abstract portal does allow LaTeX mathematical symbols but typically not commands like "\noindent".  Use the guidance for making text in bold or italics.

Proofread abstracts carefully and thoroughly before submitting. Contributed oral and poster abstracts are limited to approximately 1,300 characters. Please do not attempt to override the system defaults by introducing your own formatting in your abstract. APS will only correct system-generated LaTeX mistakes and misspellings in the authors’ names or affiliations. APS will not add additional authors or re-order the author list.

Invited abstracts are limited to approximately 2,000 characters.

- If one is an APS member who cannot recall his/her username/password, then click on "Forgot your username/password?", and you will be transferred to the APS membership page, where one can look up her/his username or have a temporary password sent.

- Those who are NOT APS members, or are reciprocal society members, will need to create a free web account. All abstract submitters need to have a web account, whether they are members or not. If one is not an APS member, then from the login page one should click "New User?", which will transfer one to the page where one can set up a web account. Note that a web account is NOT an APS membership so one does not actually have to join APS to submit an abstract.
