Description

The JEFF Radioactive Decay Data Library forms part of the suite of nuclear data libraries produced under the auspices of the Joint Evaluated Fission and Fusion (JEFF) file project of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency. An update of the radioactive decay data library, JEFF-4, is now in progress.
All the sources of radioactive decay data that contribute to this library are being updated, specifically the 900 or so radionuclides converted from the Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File (ENSDF). Furthermore, approximately 220 new or updated evaluations from the Decay Data Evaluation Project (DDEP) will be included. The DDEP is an international collaboration originally founded in 1994 between the Laboratoire National Henri Becquerel (LNE-LNHB), France, and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany, the National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) for ionising radiation in their respective countries. The collaboration was later strengthened through the addition of laboratories from the US, China, Romania, Russia, Spain and the UK.
The inclusion of average decay energies for a number of radionuclides determined from total absorption gamma-ray spectroscopy (TAGS) measurements, in accordance with the original assessment of fission-product decay data for decay heat calculations undertaken by sub-group 25 of the Working Party on International Nuclear Data Evaluation Co-operation (WPEC), will also be updated to include the latest published data.
Due to the significant advances made in the theoretical understanding and calculation of beta spectra at the LNE-LNHB, the inclusion of these spectra in the library following their calculation with the latest version of the BetaShape code is possible, if required by the user community. The inclusion of the associated (anti-)neutrino spectra is also being considered. This would be the first radioactive decay data library for applications to provide such data.
The status of the planned updates in the production of the future JEFF-4 Radioactive Decay Data Library will be presented.
