Description

Nuclear data libraries are an essential part of ensuring the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of nuclear reactors, nuclear medicine, and the Nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile, as well as being an essential resource for scientists studying nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure, archeology, and many other subjects. These nuclear data libraries, which have been constructed from measurements made over the last century, have differing philosophies, formats, and subjects. They represent a tremendous investment of time, energy, and expense. However, it is not always easy for users to find and extract the nuclear data they require. Indeed, when several different types of nuclear data are needed, locating them all can be an annoying and time-consuming process.

A Nuclear Data Reviewing Windowed System was developed to mitigate some of these challenges. It collates cross section evaluation libraries in the GNDS format with other databases, like the Atomic Mass Evaluations, NUBASE, Fission Product Yield information, and the Resonance Input Parameter Library (RIPL) to make them seamlessly available to experts and beginners alike. The software was written in PyQt, making a cross-platform, future-proof, and easy-to-use interface.

I will demonstrate the capabilities of the software, discuss some of the capabilities of the viewer, and invite suggestions for new features.
