The 8th International Conference on Collective Motion in Nuclei under Extreme Conditions (COMEX8) will be held at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida (USA). The conference is hosted by the Department of Physics at Florida State University.

The Conference will be held in person from December 15 to December 19, 2025 at FSU's Turnbull Conference Center. In the tradition of previous COMEX conferences, we will accept contributed talks and poster contributions in addition to a number of invited talks.

We anticipate to open registration for this event in April 2025. We intend to keep the conference fee below USD 500. The conference fee does not include lodging. Participants will need to make their own reservations.Discounted rates with hotels close to the conference venue (walking distance) have been negotiated. More information, including travel information, will be provided once registration opens.

The COMEX conferences are a continuation of a long series of topical conferences on giant resonances started in 1979. The scope of COMEX8 will be similar to that of previous editions:

  • COMEX1, held in Paris (France) in 2003
  • COMEX2, held in Sankt Goar (Germany) in 2006
  • COMEX3, held in Michigan (US) in 2009
  • COMEX4, held in Kanagawa (Japan) in 2012
  • COMEX5, held in Krakow (Poland) in 2015
  • COMEX6, held in Cape Town (South Africa) in 2018
  • COMEX7, held in Catania (Italy) in 2023

The main topics of the COMEX8 conference are:

  • Giant resonances in cold and hot nuclei
  • Collective and new excitation modes in nuclei
  • Spin and isospin modes
  • Clustering and pairing effects in excitations
  • Studies of the decay of highly excited states
  • Collective excitations and the nuclear equation of state
  • Applications in astrophysics
  • Novel instrumentation and methods
