Dear colleagues,
We will be hosting ISNET 8 at MSU in December 2021. The purpose is to maintain ISNET's mission of bringing the nuclear physics and statistical sciences communities together to report on the latest progress and to provide a vehicle for educating and enlightening the nuclear physics community in regards to the application of statistical methodologies that enable nuclear physics to reach more quantitatively rigorous scientific conclusions.
The dates for the meeting are December 14th - 16th 2021, and will start Tuesday morning and end Thursday afternoon.
For 2021 ISNET 8 will be an "a hybrid " meeting. All talks will be delivered on-site, but sessions will also broadcasted via ZOOM for remote participants.
On Monday, December 13th, the BAND Collaboration will host a series of pedagogical lectures, aimed at students and postdocs. This is known as BAND CAMP. These lectures will introduce nuclear physicists to the fundamentals and approaches of statistical science, and provide statisticians a picture of the challenges facing nuclear science that would benefit from more sophisticated statistical analysis. This might also include lectures on computational approaches, e.g. machine learning, that will play a role in these analyses.
There are no conference fees for ISNET 8. A working dinner is planned for Tuesday and Wednesday evening and will be partially subsidized. An informal social dinner (no charge) is being planned for Monday evening, for which details will be provided later.
This year's ISNET meeting will largely consist of 15-40 minute talks (plus 5 minutes for questions) presentations. The organizers would greatly appreciate any recommendations for speakers, including self nominations. Suggestions can be made at registration, by contacting members of the Local Organizing Committee, or by writing isnet@frib.msu.edu.
