21.\n\nRegistration for this event is now closed.\n\nIt is hosted by the F
acility for Rare Isotope Beams / National Superconducting Cyclotron Labor
atory (FRIB/NSCL) at Michigan State University (MSU).\n\nPlease note tha
t the target group for this school is graduate students.\n\nTo ensure an e
ffective learning experience\, applicants are expected to be familiar with
the concepts of quantum theory at the level of a typical two-semester gra
duate course. We furthermore require prior experience with programming in
Python.\n\nScattering theory is a framework connecting seemingly different
phenomena of the quantum world such as stable bound states\, resonances\,
elastic scattering\, and reactions. It has applications in many areas of
physics\, ranging from hadrons and nuclear physics to the description of u
ltracold atomic systems. In particular\, scattering theory provides the fo
undation for few- and many-body approaches that solve quantum problems fro
m first principles\, and it is an essential ingredient for the description
of low-energy nuclear reactions that will be studied at the Facility for
Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB).\n\nThis summer school will offer an introductio
n to nonrelativistic quantum scattering theory\, discussing its fundamenta
l assumptions and techniques guided by concrete applications. Formal aspec
ts\, centered around the important concept of the S-matrix\, will be cover
ed in detail\, complemented at each step by numerical illustrations and ha
nds-on programming exercises.\n\nAt the end of this three-day course\, par
ticipants will have a firm understanding of the basic concepts of scatteri
ng theory\, how they relate to a variety of few-and many-body quantum syst
ems\, and how they can be implemented numerically for simple examples.\n\n
