DESCRIPTION:The FRIB-TA Topical Program: Optical Potentials in Nuclear Ph
 ysics will be held at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) on the ca
 mpus of Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing\, MI USA.\n\n\n\nG
 oal of Program\n\nOptical potentials play a central role in the theoretica
 l description of processes like\, e.g.\, direct nuclear reactions and neut
 ron capture rates. Direct reactions\, such as nucleon transfer\, knockout\
 , inelastic excitation\, etc.\, have been at the basis of our understandin
 g of nuclear structure since the advent of the first particle accelerators
 \, and will continue to be at the center of FRIB activities. \n\nIn order
  to fully exploit the information obtained from FRIB experimental results 
 since its first day of operation\, it is pressing to foster the developmen
 t of reliable optical potentials to be used far from nuclear stability\, b
 eyond the reach of current standard implementations and to quantify the th
 eoretical uncertainty associated to optical potentials.\n\n The goal of t
 he present program is to:\n\n\n	Review the existing strategies to derive o
 ptical potentials\, and the underlying associated structure theory approac
 hes.\n	Assess the reliability and ranges of validity of the different appr
 oaches\, as a function of beam energies and mass numbers. \n	Make recomme
 ndations concerning the future developments\, and provide a road map both 
 for the derivation of the new generation of optical potentials and the ass
 ociated uncertainty quantification.\n\n\n\nThe Topical Program is organize
 d by the FRIB Theory Alliance. For selected participants we hope to prov
